US travel magazine awards Bangkok Best International Business City of 2008 (15.01.2008)

Leading US travel magazine Global Worlds Traveler has reported the results of a poll of 31,000 readers conducted between January and August of 2008. They choose Bangkok as the Best International Business City of 2008.

Global Worlds Traveler, polled its largely business and executive readers' base in the United States of America on tourist destinations best suited for entrepreneurs in 2008, finding that Bangkok remains a favorite amongst the business community. Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Los Angeles Office Director Mr. Chanchai Duangjit is set to represent the nation in receiving the distinction today (January 15), stating that the award underlines Bangkok's acceptance amongst the international community for its tourist excellence and high standard of service.

Mr. Chanchai especially noted the discerning nature of the business community and how the reward will help to bring positive attention to the nation's image.

The LA TAT office is preparing to hold a cultural performance and promotional event to present Thailand to 150 American businessman and reinforce confidence in traveling to Thailand.

Bangkok replaces Florence as world's best city

Bangkok was voted the world's best city for 2008 and the Galapagos were picked as the best islands in an online poll by Travel + Leisure magazine, trumping last year's winners Florence, Italy and Bali, Indonesia.

It was the first time that Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand, and the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador topped their respective categories, said Nancy Novogrod, editor-in-chief of Travel + Leisure.

Last year, Bangkok was ranked number 3 and the Galapagos number 8. The 2007 winners of best city and best island — Florence an Bali — fell to number 5 and number 2 respectively.

The results were complied from votes by magazine subscribers in an Internet poll which went live between January and March.
